Get ready for Disney XD’s newest show, KICKIN’ IT! Premiering this Saturday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m., ET. KICKIN’ IT is a comedy about martial arts starring Leo Howard as Jack. Here, Leo tells us about the show, his character and more:
Tell us about the show!
The show is about a karate studio called the Bobby Wasabi Martial Arts Academy. Five totally different kids come together at a dojo to become friends and realize that they’re closer together and stronger together than they are apart.
How would you compare yourself to your character, Jack?
We are very similar. It’s very easy for me to get into the character of Jack because we are a lot alike. Jack and I have a very similar sense of humour. He is very sarcastic in his humour and so am I. I can’t skateboard, which is a very big difference.
What’s been your most memorable on set moment on the show so far?
There have been many set moments that I have loved. One of my favourite parts of being on the show is the gag reel. In one scene we were filming, a figure of Bobby Wasabi comes in this big crate, and the sides fall off the box revealing the really expensive wax figure. In one of the takes, the box flew open and the figure smashed on the floor. The coolest thing was that we all stayed in character so that made it even funnier. I love moments like that. Even when one of your friends messes up their line, it’s really fun because it’s a family-oriented environment.
What do you like most about martial arts?
I love exploring new areas of training, because there are so many different styles and different moves. Actually, just today I was exploring kickboxing and Muay Thai with the stunt coordinator here on set.
How has your training in martial arts helped in your acting?
The focus has definitely helped me in my acting. Learning focus and respect ties into all parts of life.
Who would you love to work with?
Johnny Depp. He is bright, his styles are so different and he is just great.
