Buzz has been swirling for months now, but the day is finally here… PARANORMAN hits theatres today!
It’s been too long since the a stop-motion film came out. With a medium this time-consuming, it’s no wonder stop-motion films aren’t released very often. But when they are, the films are usually gems and develop a huge fan following. PARANORMAN is expected to join the list of amazing stop-motion movies.
PARANORMAN tells the story of a boy, Norman, who has a special gift: he can talk to the dead. He sees ghosts with the same frequency that others see pigeons. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help him fit in at school. When Norman’s town is cursed by a witch and is under siege by a witch and some zombies, it’s up to Norman and an unlikely group of friends to save the day!
The movie was made using a special type of stop-motion called “replacement animation.” Moulds of thousands of different expressions were created for each character and were snapped on and off the puppets to allow their faces to move. A picture is taken with each new face and the entire sequence is strung together in a fast slideshow to create a moving image.
PARANORMAN is the perfect combination of a great story and impressive cinematography. The fact that it’s in 3D adds to the visual appeal and makes it that much cooler!
