From the posters and ads, it seemed like PLANES would be a lot like CARS, but good news: the story is actually very different. PLANES is basically the story of “the little plane that could.” Dusty is a small town, crop-duster that dreams of being in a plane race called Wings Around The Globe. Together with the help of his friends, Dusty trains to become one of the fastest planes the globe has ever seen!
For a story about a race, the movie is a little slow, especially at the start, but it picks up and with some pretty exciting scenes midway. It also has a bunch of fun characters to get to know, which makes up for the pace. In CARS, the movie focused on just cars and trucks, but in PLANES you are introduced to a bigger world. Dusty, the star of the movie, is a plane but his friends include cars, a blimp and even a flying car! PLANES highlights the idea of working together. From young and old to boys and girls, there are so many characters for us to relate to. The planes come from all over the world including: Canada, Mexico, India and England – there is someone for all of us to cheer on!
Another cool thing about the movie is that the big race takes place around the globe; so in some ways, seeing the film is sort of like taking a virtual vacation. The audience gets to see the world as the planes and cars travel everywhere, including places like Nepal and Germany.
PLANES is a feel good movie, with a few laughs and a strong message that says, “Believe in yourself!” It’s a cute and charming story and all of the traveling definitely makes it a movie to see this summer!
