The Russo family is back to bring magic into our homes again with THE WIZARDS RETURN: ALEX VS ALEX! The original cast and some new faces join together for this reunion special of the WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE. Selena Gomez returns as executive producer and her role as Alex Russo, who is now the Family Wizard.
The show was known for its quirkyhumourand magical spells. This specialdoesn’tdisappoint. At the beginning, we see Alex and her best friend Harper at a drive-thru movie… in her house!
The show works backwards, with Alex standing in front of the Crystals of Justice, who are accusing her of endangering the world. They rewind to the beginning of when it all started. The action begins when newcomer Dominic comes to the Russo home to tell them that Justin is not coming home. He takes a liking to Alex and compliments her before he leaves.
Jerry announces that he has been invited to a family reunion in Italy. Alex uses her magic to create a door in their living room that will transport them instantly to Italy. When Alex can’t remember the spell to remove the door, she again gets told to grow up. Offended, Alex takes herself to the inside of a Jumbotron. Dominic shows up there, complimenting Alex more and giving her a bracelet. Mason then shows up with a picnic basket with a home cooked meal, but Alex uses her magic to create fast food. He too tells Alex to grow up and stop being selfish.
Feeling sad about constantly being told to change, Alex has a heart to heart talk with Harper, who tells her that she shouldn’t have to change. Alex decides to create a spell to remove the bad parts from her. This Bad Alex gets locked in a mirror but soon breaks out and goes through the door to Italy. With all the Russos in Italy, Bad Alex goes after them one by one and traps them inside the charm bracelet that Dominic gave to her.
With all her friends and family locked in a bracelet, Alex returns to Italy to stop Dominic and her evil self. In an epic battle against herself, the two Alex’s fight in the Russo home for the bracelet. Good Alex ultimately wins the bracelet, but when she goes back to the Tower, she gets cornered and gives up the bracelet. Dominic throws the bracelet off the Tower. Alex quickly saves it and frees everyone. Mason pushes Dominic off the Tower, leaving Bad Alex on her own.
Good Alex creates a spell to cancel out both hers and Bad Alex’s powers in order to get rid of her evil self. The spell works! Now facing the Crystals of Justice again, Alex’s sentence is overturned but she doesn’t get her powers back. Alex accepts it, calling Harper her magic because she’s the only one who accepts all of her. The Crystals change their minds and give Alex her magic back.
Overall, THE WIZARDS RETURN is a great way to wrap the series up. The show delivers a performance filled with action, laughs, and of course, magic. Even though the show ended in 2012, the cast proves that the Russo family will always be a part of them. This special can be enjoyed by anyone, whether or notthey’vebeen watching since the beginning!
