The holiday break may be over, but 2014 is just beginning! It’s not just new calendars and writing down the wrong year on homework assignments, either. This January brings a ton of new shows with something for just about everyone. Your favourite television channels have resolved to start things off fresh and we don’t see any reason why you can’t too.
NUMB CHUCKS – Premieres Tuesday, January 7 at 4:30 p.m. on YTV
Pandas aren’t the only animals who know martial arts, and woodchucks Dilweed and Fungus are here to prove it. These two believe that kung-fu is the answer to all of life’s problems, and while their antics may cause even more complications, you can be sure that they’ll somehow get to solving them before the show’s over.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS AND RAVENSWOOD BACK-TO-BACK – Tuesday, January 7 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on M3
What’s the first thing you do after you find out that the friend you thought was dead is really alive? Find out who’s buried in their grave, of course! Mysteries can only stack higher as Spencer, Hanna, Emily and Aria deal with Alison’s return. Then travel from Rosewood over to Ravenswood, where the town’s teenagers are searching for their own answers and fall into danger when an unknown force keeps Remy from waking up.
TOTAL DRAMA ALL-STARS SEASON 5 – Premieres Thursday, January 9 at 7 p.m. on Teletoon. New episodes air Thursdays at 7 p.m. on Teletoon
Fourteen returning competitors, two teams, one Chef! Chris McLean is back hosting TOTAL DRAMA: TOTAL DRAMA ALL-STARS and this time the gang is split up between the Heroic Hamsters and the Villainous Vultures. The challenges are tough and the stakes are even higher with each contestant being sent home via the humiliating Flush Of Shame.
MARVEL’S HULK AND THE AGENTS OF S.M.A.S.H. – Premieres Friday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. on Teletoon. New episodes air Fridays at 7:30 p.m. on Teletoon
We all know Hulk is the strongest Avenger, but what about when he’s joined by four other heroic heavy hitters? The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. are Red Hulk, She-Hulk, A-Bomb and Skaar, and they’re here to pound the bad guys into dust alongside the gamma-powered giant himself.
BEWARE THE BATMAN – Premieres Saturday, January 11 at 8 p.m. on Teletoon. New episodes air Saturdays at 8 p.m. on Cartoon Network
The Caped Crusader has graced the small screen for years, but this time it’s in crisp CGI, and battling lesser-known villains like Professor Pyg and Mister Toad, Anarky and Magpie. However, he’s not alone, not when he’s backed up by ex-secret agent/loyal butler Alfred and martial arts swordmaster Katana.
SPACE MARATHON – Sunday, January 12 beginning at 5 p.m. on Disney XD
You’re leaving behind 2013, so why not the Earth’s atmosphere as well? Blast off to outer space with interstellar episodes of PHINEAS AND FERB, LAB RATS, MIGHTY MED, and even a new episode of KICKIN’ IT where Milton has to rescue Jerry after he accidentally launches a shuttle (and himself!) into space.
ARCHER SEASON 5 – Premieres Monday, January 13 at 10 p.m. on Teletoon. New episodes air Mondays at 10 p.m. with reruns on Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. on Teletoon
Rejoin superspy Sterling Archer as he and the rest of the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) do everything they can to keep the world safe. We can’t guarantee what they’ll be up against this season, but its title, “Archer Vice”, has given us a few clues. At the very least expect lots of espionage and surveillance, accompanied by healthy amount of hijinks.
PACKAGES FROM PLANET X – Premieres Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. on Teletoon. New episodes air Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. on Teletoon
Everybody loves getting mail, but what about when those packages are from an evil alien planet? As far as Dan Zembrosky and his friends, Troll and Amanda, are concerned it’s still awesome, especially with the added bonus of unexpected side effects from the interstellar parcels. Oh, and the responsibility to save the Earth from falling victim to extraterrestrial invasion!
CLOUD 9 – Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. on Family Channel
Produced by Ashley Tisdale (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL), this Disney Channel Original Movie features star snowboarder Kayla Morgan, who is faced with the task of training former snowboarding champ Will Cloud after an “epic fail” of a wipeout threatens to end his career. It’s up to the two of them to work it out and get their heads in the game if they want to take on the upcoming Fire and Ice Snowboarding Competition.
I DIDN’T DO IT – FIRST LOOK – Friday, January 17 at 9:30 p.m. on Family Channel
Everyone always has a different story when it comes to how things went down, and each episode of this new comedy series is full of flashbacks from five teenage friends trying to explain how whatever happened . . . happened. This special preview has Lindy (KICKIN’ IT) and Logan telling their parents why there’s a foam-covered house, a goat in the living room and what happened to their 91-year-old babysitter.
POWERPUFF GIRLS SPECIAL: DANCE PANTSED – Premieres Monday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network
Mojo Jojo is back to his old tricks, trying to steal Chemical X with a kidnapped mathematician, an opera singer and a badger. It’ll take more than an eclectic mix of items to stop Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, though! But when he brings his evil video game Dance Pants R-EVILution into play it’ll be up to their dad and his hidden past to save the city of Townsville.
