A biopic based on the life of famed Canadian, Terry Fox, is being considered for production by an Los Angeles producer.
Kelly Slattery is a producer based in Los Angeles, but who grew up in Toronto. Her father was an executive for Adidas and had been touched by a letter he received from Fox asking for support with his Marathon of Hope run for cancer research. Slattery explains that Fox was a “religion” in her home and that “he represented a selflessness that is rarely seen in the world today.”
With the co-operation of the Fox family, Slattery secured the rights to TERRY FOX: THE FEATURE FILM and has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the film’s production. The film is due to be released sometime in 2014 and all the proceeds will go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation which supports cancer research.
Terry Fox is a Canadian hero best known for his Marathon of Hope run for cancer research during which he aimed to run across Canada. Fox had lost his right leg to cancer and despite having a prosthetic leg, he took on the daunting task of running across the Great White North in the hopes of gaining attention and support for cancer research.
Unfortunately, Fox’s run was cut short when cancer returned and took his life on June 28, 1981, just 143 days after her began his run. Despite being unable to finish his run, Fox had managed to capture the hearts of Canadians for generations and is now considered a national hero.
